The Belgian Society for Parasitology and the Belgian Society of Protistology held their first scientific meeting as a merged society on 7 November 2013 at the Institute for Tropical Medicine in Antwerp.
The theme was “Unity in diversity”.
The meeting included presentations by two invited speakers (PROF. JOANNE P. WEBSTER, IMPERIAL COLLEGE, LONDON, UK and PROF. THORSTEN STOECK, UNIVERSITY OF AISERSLAUTERN, GERMANY) and 14 oral presentations.
This scientific meeting was partly sponsored by Dafra Pharma.

The Elanco grant for the best presentation at the 2012 BSP meeting was awarded to Steven Odongo for his presentation entitled "Nanobody is a new tool for diagnosis of animal African trypanosomiasis (nagana)".
The Zoetis travel grant was awarded to Lynn Meurs to attend the 62nd Annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene on 13-17 November 2013 in Washington, DC (report).
A dinner, partly subsidised for BSPP members, was organised at the Huis De Colvenier restaurant.
